Principal double bass in the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Yann Dubost also devotes himself to teaching (at the CRR de Paris and the CNSMDP), as well as to several long-term collaborations: the classical and romantic adventures of Pygmalion on period instruments, and contemporary music with Ensemble Itinéraire for over 20 years.

A sought-after chamber musician, he is a regular guest at Europe’s leading festivals and has shared the stage with Martha Argerich, Paul Badura-Skoda, Renaud and Gauthier Capuçon, Bertrand Chamayou, Myung-Whun Chung, Augustin Dumay, Christoph Eschenbach, Pierre Fouchenneret, David Guerrier, Steven Isserlis, Alexandre Kantorow, Leonidas Kavakos, and the Danel, Diotima, Modigliani, and Talich quartets… As a soloist, he had the pleasure to play with orchestras such as the Bedford Sinfonia, Haverhill Sinfonia, Orchestre Mozart Toulouse, Münchener Kammerorchester… He was invited to give a recital in the 2007 and 2009 International Society of Bassists conventions, and was guest musician for the French Victoires de la musique 2017. Fond of contemporary music, member of the Ensemble Itinéraire, he premiered and recorded several pieces by O. Adamek, F. Bedrossian, Y. Chauris, C. Roqué-Alsina, R. Wilson… Yann has also met and worked with composers such as Henri Dutilleux, György Kurtag, Michaël Levinas, Betsy Jolas…

Trained at the Grenoble Conservatory with Philippe Guingouain, Yann continued his studies at the CNSMD in Lyon in Bernard Cazauran’s class, and furthered his training with Seiji Ozawa at his academy in Switzerland. First prize winner of the International Society of Bassists Solo Competition in 2005, he is also a laureate of the Cziffra Foundation and the Premio Valentino Bucchi. He joined the Orchestre de Paris at age 19, before becoming principal bass of the Philharmonique de Radio France in 2011. As guest principal, Yann has played in the London Symphony Orchestra, Sveriges Radios Symfoniorkester, Nederlands Philharmonisch Orkest (NedPhO), Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse, Opéra National de Lyon, Les Dissonances, Les Siècles… He has also participated in the concerts of Utopia, conducted by Teodor Currentzis.

He has recorded for Albany Records (solo pieces by Richard Wilson), Alpha (Schubert octet, Mozart Gran Partita on period instruments, and Lucien Durosoir with Diotima quartet), Timpani (André Caplet with Ardeo quartet, and Claude Debussy with Debussy quartet), B Records (Mendelssohn sextet), NomadMusic (les Tromano)… Passionate about teaching and passing on his knowledge, Yann Dubost has been a double bass professor at the CRR de Paris since 2016, and a professor of sight-reading and orchestra training at the Paris Conservatory (CNSMDP) since 2024. He plays an Italian double bass by Giuseppe Zanotti from 1733, and a Viennese double bass from 1770 attributed to Joseph Ferdinand Leidolff.
